Push For Medical Marijuana Bill Renewed At Capitol
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Supporters of medical marijuana plan to continue their push for its legalization at the State Capitol on Tuesday.
The group, Minnesotans for Compassionate Care, says they now have 100 Minnesota doctors, pastors and clergy members who support legal access to medical marijuana.
Their push arrives as a Minnesota Senate Committee is expected to take up the issue again. They had said it would be brought back to the table after their Easter-Passover break.
Parents of children suffering epileptic seizures say cannabis reduces their frequency and intensity, but Minnesota's Health Commissioner Dr. Edward Ehlinger said the medical benefits are unproven.
While there could be enough votes in the legislature to pass a bill legalizing medical marijuana, Gov. Mark Dayton has said he's opposed to it and would likely veto it.
