Purdue Football Player Drowned Accidentally
LAFAYETTE, Ind. (AP) -- Preliminary autopsy results indicate a Purdue football player whose body was found in a northern Indiana lake died from an accidental drowning.
The Journal and Courier says the autopsy on Sean Matti was conducted Wednesday in Indianapolis. It says toxicology results were pending.
State conservation officers say the Shoreview, Minn., native was last seen about 5 p.m. Sunday swimming during a party with friends on Lake Freeman, about 15 miles northeast of Lafayette. His body was found Tuesday morning about 20 yards from shore.
Matti, a senior, had been a walk-on running back with Purdue's football team since 2007. A mermorial fund for Matti has been set up at the Bremer Bank in Roseville. Anyone wanting to donate to the memorial should mail a check to the Sean Patti Memorial Fund, P.O. Box 130482, Roseville, MN, 55113.
