Pumpkin Growers Square Off At Stillwater Harvest Festival
STILLWATER, Minn. (WCCO) -- If you've ever wished to paddle a giant pumpkin down a river, this weekend is your chance.
A pumpkin regatta on the St. Croix is part of this weekend's Harvest Festival in Stillwater. Spokeswoman Cassie McLemore said yes, giant pumpkins do float.
And the friendly rivalry between a Wisconsin grower and a Minnesota grower will be laid to rest on Sunday when one of them is crowned the winner at Stillwater's Harvest Festival. McLemore said it all begins with a single seed from a giant pumpkin and from there, it's all up to chance and a lot of tender, loving care.
The festival also includes a giant pumpkin weigh-off, where two pumpkin-growing rivals from Minnesota and Wisconsin will try to tip the scale at more than 1,700 pounds.

If you like your huge pumpkins smashed or hollowed, the festival has that too. They'll be dropping 700-pounders from a crane, and rowing and racing them down the St. Croix River in the first annual pumpkin regatta.
