Prison Scuffle For Wis. Fetal-Abduction Suspect
MILWAUKEE (AP) -- The Milwaukee County sheriff's office says an inmate accused of killing a pregnant woman and trying to steal her unborn baby has assaulted a prison guard.
Sheriff's spokeswoman Fran McLaughlin says 33-year-old Annette Morales-Rodriguez was involved in an altercation Monday night.
McLaughlin on Tuesday said the officer was conducting security rounds about 10 p.m. when Morales-Rodriguez grabbed the officer's radio and threw it out of reach. That sparked a seven-minute struggle that McLaughlin says ended after the officer used "several focused strikes" and shoved Morales-Rodriguez into a cell.
McLaughlin says the inmate said, "I just want to go home." The guard sustained minor scrapes.
A message left with the Morales-Rodriguez's attorney Tuesday was not immediately returned. Her attorney has entered insanity pleas on her behalf to two homicide charges.
