Will A Prince Tribute Concert At U.S. Bank Stadium Actually Happen?
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Prince fans across the globe are waiting to hear if a tribute concert said to be held at U.S. Bank Stadium is going to happen.
Prince's sister, Tyka Nelson, made the announcement back in July. She said the concert would take place October 13 at the brand new stadium in downtown Minneapolis. Since then, Prince fans from around the globe have been making plans to attend the tribute in Minneapolis.
It's what native Minnesotans and Prince fans around the world have been waiting for -- a tribute to the Purple One, held in the crown jewel of stadiums in the town he loved to call home.
The planned date is now a month away, and so far no tickets have been sold.
Michele Kelm-Helgen, chairwoman of the Minnesota Sports Facility Authority, says U.S. Bank Stadium does not have a signed contract for a Prince concert at this time, but says they will provide additional information when it is available.
With no signed contract and no official information available we turned to those closest to Prince for answers.
Prince's sister and brother-in-law did not respond to our calls. Prince's attorney passed along a written request from WCCO to the person who could tell us if there will be a concert, or any information about it.
Lois O'Neill responded by saying: "Your note was forwarded to me as I'm taking point on PR for this event. We are hoping to have all the answers to your questions in the next few days. I'll be back in touch as soon as possible."
For now, Prince fans are in a holding pattern, but we're told what is in store for that tribute will be worth the wait.
Sources inside the music industry say the producer for the tribute concert has changed more than once since the date was announced. We hope to learn more in the coming days from the people now in charge of making decisions about the concert.
