Primaries For Minn. Legislature Will Shape Field
MORA, Minn. (AP) -- Two Republicans seeking an open Minnesota House seat in the Mora area are planning to help each other after the Aug. 14 primary, no matter who wins.
That's because Mitch Pangerl and Ben Wiener both want to keep the seat in Republican hands. It's part of a push to keep Republicans in control of the Legislature.
The race in Mora and in other close contests will shape Minnesota's approach to taxes and spending and another projected budget deficit after years of financial pain.
Democratic Gov. Mark Dayton wants Democratic majorities to support raising top-tier income taxes and increasing school spending. Republicans want to block Dayton from doing that as he looks toward re-election in 2014.
Forty legislative districts have primary races in August.
