Woman Charged With Chasing Stepson Through St. Paul Elementary
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A St. Paul woman is accused of chasing her developmentally delayed stepson through a St. Paul elementary school Wednesday afternoon, where police say she threatened to kill him.
Tashay Caprice Johnson, 24, is charged in Ramsey County with one count of making terroristic threats and one count of malicious punishment of a child.
According to the criminal complaint, a school administrator told police Johnson chased her stepson through Dayton's Bluff Achievement Plus Elementary, threatening him, while the visibly injured 9-year-old screamed, "My mom is trying to kill me, don't let me go back to her."
Police say the incident began when a teacher walked the student home to talk to his parents about behavioral problems in class. The boy told officers that after the teacher had left, Johnson hit him in the head with a baseball bat, punched him in the face several times and struck him in the arm with a gold belt.
Officers noted several injuries to the boy's head, neck and arm that matched the trauma he described. When police questioned Johnson about her stepson's injuries, she denied hitting the boy.
If convicted, she'll face up to five years behind bars and a $10,000 fine.
