Police: Waite Park Man Arrested In Pine County Fatal Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man is in jail on suspicion of criminal vehicular homicide and DUI after a crash in Pine County on Saturday that killed a Maplewood man, according to the Minnesota State Patrol.
Authorities responded to a two-vehicle crash at about 2:45 p.m. Saturday on Highway 70 at Government Road in Pine County. When authorities arrived, they learned a 2011 Toyota Prius was headed westbound on Highway 70 when a 1997 Dodge Ram pick-up truck that was traveling northbound on Government Road ran a stop sign and broadsided the Prius.
The driver of the Prius, 50-year-old William D. Joseph of Maplewood, was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the pick-up truck and a passenger in the Prius were not hurt.
The State Patrol said alcohol was detected on the driver of the Dodge Ram, identified as 48-year-old Danny A. Kitterman of Waite Park. He was taken into custody and booked into the Pine County Jail.
The Minnesota State Patrol is still investigating the crash with assistance from the Pine County Sheriff's Office.
