Incident At Downtown Minneapolis Hotel Ends Peacefully
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in Minneapolis say officers responded Thursday afternoon to a situation involving a possible suicidal person on an upper floor of a downtown hotel.
The man, a hotel guest, had bickered with staff about a bill.
Police were called to the Hilton hotel on Marquette Avenue around 2:30 p.m. after the man made a threat to staff.
Officials said an individual was holed up in a room, possibly with weapons.
Police cleared out one floor of the hotel shortly before 5 p.m.
The incident ended peacefully shortly before 8 p.m., after five hours of negotiation.
The man was arrested and booked into the Hennepin County Jail on second-degree assault charges.
A post on the department's Twitter page said police don't believe the public is in danger.
An event for the National Association of Black Journalists is being held at the hotel.
