Police: Repeat Drunk Driver Arrested For DUI Near Bar
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 27-year-old man with three prior drunk driving convictions, and no driving privileges, was charged for driving under the influence after leaving an Eagan bar, according to police.
Rodney Orlando Hunter, of Eagan, was charged with two counts of first-degree driving while impaired and one count of driving after canceled inimical to public safety.
Police say Hunter was leaving a parking lot at a local bar around 10:30 p.m. on Oct. 21 when he nearly ran through a red light, but instead swerved to turn right. An officer followed his vehicle and observed Hunter cross the fog line several times.
The officer then pulled him over and detected the odor of alcohol on his breath and noticed he was slurring his speech.
The officer ran Hunter's name and found he was convicted of drunken driving in 2007, 2008 and 2010. He also noticed Hunter's driving privileges were canceled.
Hunter was asked to perform field sobriety tests, which he completed poorly. He then told the officer, "Yeah I am drunk."
Hunter provided a preliminary breath test, which showed an alcohol concentration of .191, twice the legal limit.
He was arrested and transported to the Eagan Police Department.
