Man Suspected Of Hitting 3 Minn. Banks In 1 Day
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minneapolis FBI is asking the public's help in finding a person they believe robbed two banks and tried to rob a third on Tuesday.
At about 8:30 Tuesday morning, a worker at the United Educator's Credit Union, located in the 7900 block of Eden Road in Eden Prairie, unlocked the front door of the bank to let a man into the bank who had been standing outside in the rain.
The man had his back turned to the front door as it was being unlocked for business, and when it opened, he turned around and displayed a handgun to the worker. The man said, "This is a robbery. Don't call the police."
The man walked up to the teller and demanded money, and he walked away with an undisclosed amount of money that included a dye pack. Police say that pack exploded outside the bank, and some money was recovered in the parking lot.
At about 9:15 a.m., a man entered the Richfield-Bloomington Credit Union, located in the 4000 block of West Old Shakopee Rd. Police say he walked directly to the teller counter and showed a gun. He made a verbal demand for money, and the teller walked to a nearby glass area located behind the teller counter. The robber left the bank without any money.
About an hour later, a man entered the Wells Fargo Bank in the 300 block of Western Ave. in Faribault. Police say he walked to the teller counter, displayed a handgun and demanded money. The teller gave the robber an undisclosed amount of cash. The robber made a verbal command for more money, which the teller gave him.
Police believe the man is responsible for all three incidents. They also think the man is responsible for the April 11 robbery of the Sterling Bank in Savage and the April 14 robbery of the U.S. Federal Credit Union in Northfield.
Witnesses describe the robber as a white male in his late 20s or early 30s, between 5-9 and 6 feet tall with a medium build and gray or hazel colored eyes. Police say he was wearing white tennis shoes, blue jeans, a dark sweatshirt, a black hooded jacket, a black mask, a black knit hat and black gloves. No one was injured during the robberies.
