Police: Man Stole Van, Robbed Gas Station, Fled Police
EAGAN, Minn. (WCCO) -- A Minneapolis man has been accused of using a stolen van to rob an Eagan gas station, which led to a high-speed police chase.
Jermaine Savory, 32, was charged with two felony counts of simple robbery and one felony count of fleeing a peace officer by means of a motor vehicle.
According to the criminal complaint, at 5:38 p.m. on Nov. 6, 2011, Eagan Police responded to the report of a gas station robbery on Pilot Know road. Dispatch informed police that the suspect fled the scene in a silver minivan, which was reported stolen earlier that day, with the Minnesota license SKT-397.
When officers arrived at the gas station, a gas station employee said that the suspect entered the store earlier and yelled, "B----, you got 3 seconds to give me the f------ money!" After taking the money, he fled, police said. Another employee and other witnesses gave identical accounts of the robbery.
Meanwhile, an officer in a marked squad located the silver minivan heading west of Diffley Road near Blackhawk Road and began following the van while waiting for backup. During that time, the van was observed changing lanes without signaling, accelerating, decelerating and become unpredictable.
Once backup arrived, police activated their emergency lights and sirens in an attempt to stop the van. The man failed to pull over, however, and police chased him at speeds ranging between 80 and 100 mph. After approximately 6 miles, the vehicle ran over stop sticks on Cedar Avenue near 143rd Street in Apple Valley.
The van then drove over a curb, over a sidewalk and entered a business parking lot. With the van still in motion, the man allegedly got out and fled on foot. Police said caught Savory and arrested him soon after.
If convicted, Savory could face up to 23 years in prison.
