Police: Man Knocked Out In Eagan Road Rage Incident
EAGAN, Minn. (WCCO) -- Eagan police need your help finding the driver involved in a road rage attack.
A 62-year-old Inver Grove Heights man went to the hospital with a broken nose and wrist after a fight in a parking lot near Pilot Knob Road and Diffley Road in Eagan.
The incident started, less than a mile away, at the intersection of Pilot Knob and Cliff Road in Eagan when the victim honked his horn.
Last Saturday night, the driver of a sports utility vehicle and the Inver Grove Heights man, who's a Vietnam veteran, were stopped at the intersection. The vet honked his horn at the driver ahead of him once the light turned green. That started an argument between the two as they traveled, north, along Pilot Knob Road.
"The two vehicles exchanged gestures and words as they traveled along Pilot Knob Road," said Desiree Schroepfer, of the Eagan Police Department.
The victim eventually pulled into the parking lot near PDQ, on Diffley, and got out of his vehicle to see the driver of the SUV had followed him.
The two pushed each other and the fight escalated to the point the victim's head was slammed into his own car. The driver of the SUV also punched the vet, knocking him unconscious.
"The severity and the altercation that occurred afterwards made it fairly severe, yes," said Schroepfer.
Those in nearby businesses came out to help, but the driver of the SUV took off. No one saw his license plate.
"It's very challenging. Obviously, we want to find the person who did this. Without that information, it's difficult to find them to hear their side of the story," said Schroepfer.
The victim is now recovering from a broken nose and wrist.
Police described the driver of the SUV as a white man in his 30s, athletic build and short blonde hair. He was driving a dark colored SUV and there was a woman in the passenger seat.
