Police Searching For Suspect In Shakopee Shooting Death
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Police in Shakopee are searching for the person who shot a man to death inside his own home.
The victim has not been identified yet, but police say he lived at this house in the 800 block of Prairie Street in Shakopee.
Officers went to the home around 7 p.m. Tuesday night after receiving a report of an armed robbery. When they went inside, they found the victim with gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The day after the discovery, officers were seen searching the yards of neighbors, making sure they don't miss anything.
Shakopee Police say the man who was shot, lived there with his brother. At the time of the shooting, a friend of the victim was inside the home with him.
Police tell us the victim and suspect likely knew each other, so they don't believe neighbors or others are in danger.
Diane Henning lives across the street.
"I didn't see nothing, but I know there is a lot of activity over there. People coming and going, cars going constantly. And then the security system in his car goes off all the time," Henning said.
Henning said she saw the victim just hours before he was killed.
"About 1:30, 2 o'clock, I drove down and he was at the mailbox. Smiled and waved to me. I smiled and waved and pulled into the garage," Henning said.
Police tell us a witness was able to provide investigators with a description of the suspect, who was described as a young dark-skinned man, wearing glasses and a hooded gray sweatshirt.
The Hennepin County Medical Examiner's office is expected to release a report later Wednesday with the exact cause of death. We will likely learn the victim's name at that time.
A team from the Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is assisting in the investigation and processing evidence.
