Police: Man Claiming To Be Cop Making Harassing Calls
MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (WCCO) -- Maplewood Police are investigating reports of several suspicious and lewd phone calls made to area businesses by someone claiming to be a police officer.
In five separate instances involving female call recipients, a man with a deep voice identifies himself as an officer from the Maplewood, St. Paul or Roseville police departments.
The caller initially says he is conducting a survey for a school presentation project, but then asks the female employees a series of personal questions, including their age, hair color and clothing.
In all cases, employees say the caller beings the conversations in a professional manner, and then takes a harassing tone. Once confronted, the caller hangs up.
Maplewood Police Chief Paul Schnell says the nature of the calls, especially by someone who claims to be involved in law enforcement, is of concern.
"While we have no information to suggest that the caller represents a physical danger, the content and focus of the calls is understandably troubling to those receiving these harassing phone calls," Schnell said.
Anyone with information about these calls is asked to contact Maplewood Police at 651-767-0640, or call 911.
