Police: Man Attacked Woman Who Rebuffed Him
HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) -- A Burnsville man has been charged with third-degree assault after allegedly beating an acquaintance when she said she didn't want a relationship with him.
Chandralall Thakur, 29, has also been charged with making terroristic threats. Both of his charges are felonies.
According to the criminal complaint, Thakur and the victim got into an argument on May 5. When Thakur told her that he had feelings for her, she said she didn't want to have a relationship, the charges state.
She said Thakur had been calling her repeatedly in recent weeks, as many as 40 times per hour. He offered to pay part of the victim's cell phone bill.
On May 5, despite her misgivings, she got into his vehicle and they went to a car dealership, police said. It was then that Thakur allegedly beat the woman and bit her.
He then allegedly told her, "You know what I want, get in the back seat." The victim said he pulled a knife on her, cutting her hand.
The victim told police he also ripped out some of her hair before apparently feeling remorse for his actions and offering to drive her back home. Once there, one of the victim's family members contacted police.
When approached by investigators, Thakur eventually admitted to hitting the victim, but said she had been cut on the hand because his knife was in the vehicle's cup holder. Police found a pair of pants with blood on them and what appeared to be a clump of hair in the pocket, the charges state.
