St. Paul Teen Killed In Crash On Mendota Bridge
MENDOTA HEIGHTS, Minn. (WCCO) – The Minnesota State Patrol says a 19-year-old man from St. Paul is dead after an accident on the Mendota Bridge Thursday night.
Authorities received a report of a fatal incident at about 5:30 p.m. on Highway 5/55 in Mendota Heights. Authorities said the teen was driving eastbound on Highway 55 when a tire blew. The teen continued driving a short distance, then tried to exit from the moving vehicle.
The State Patrol said the teen opened his car door and his foot somehow got caught on the vehicle. He fell onto a traffic lane and was then run over by the back of the car, a 1998 Nissan Maxima, as he was trying to get out of the moving vehicle. Authorities said it wasn't clear if the male was trying to pull the vehicle over or why his foot would have been outside the door before it got trapped.
The eastbound lanes of Highway 55 were closed for a brief time while the accident was being investigated. The victim's identity is not being released until his family is notified.
