Police Identify 2 Suspects In Stearns Co. Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The two people arrested after a 33-year-old man was shot in St. Augusta, Minn. earlier this week have been identified.
The Stearns County Sheriff's Office says 30-year-old Erik Magnuson and 21-year-old Jerod Jakel went to the residence on the 23600 block of 69th Avenue Wednesday morning to collect money owed to them.
Investigators said Jakel went into the home with a handgun and a bandana covering his face, and Magnuson waited outside in the vehicle.
A struggle between Jakel and the victim ensued, during which the victim was shot in the abdomen.
Authorities said Jakel fled the scene, taking two bags of methamphetamine with him on the way out.
Officers responded to the scene at about 11:30 a.m. and found the victim, who was taken to St. Cloud Hospital for non-life threatening injuries.
Witnesses at the scene provided a description of the suspects and their vehicle, which deputies located a short time later in St. Joseph Township.
Both Magnuson and Jakel admitted to their involvement in the incident to officers. They said they threw the gun out the window of the vehicle.
They have both been booked at Stearns County Jail on first-degree assault charges.
