Police Get Erratic Driver In West Metro Safely Off Road
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Authorities said a potentially tragic situation involving an erratic driver in the west Twin Cities metro Tuesday ended with the driver being taken into custody.
Officers with departments in South Lake Minnetonka, Deephaven and Minnetrista were dispatched on a report of an erratic driver on Highway 7. The suspect vehicle was running red lights at speeds in excess of 80 miles per hour.
Authorities said tire deflation devices slowed the vehicle down, but it continued and swerved into oncoming traffic at times. A South Lake Minnetonka police officer was able to utilize a contact tactic to spin the car out into a guardrail and end the potential threat to nearby motorists.
Police said the driver was suffering from a mental health crisis and was taken into custody. There were no injuries in the incident.
