Police Fatally Shoot Suspect Following Crash
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- Police say a man suspected of robbing a Walgreens at gunpoint was shot and killed in Duluth after crashing a stolen vehicle into a house and firing at officers.
Police tried stopping the car about 10:30 p.m. Sunday, but the car sped away and police began a pursuit. The chase ended when the suspect crashed into a house and fled. Police say the man ran into a nearby house and shot at two officers who pursued him. One officer returned fire, killing the man. A woman in the house suffered a gunshot wound. Officer Jim Hansen says the woman's injuries are non-life threatening. The officers were not injured.
At a news conference Monday, Duluth Police Chief Gordon Ramsey declined to release the names of the man or the officers involved. He also declined to say how many shots were fired, saying the case is under investigation.
Police tried stopping the car because it matched the description of one that was stolen at gunpoint following a Walgreens robbery Saturday.
The Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension is investigating.
