Police Dog Finds Suspect Following 13-Hour Standoff
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Officials say a 28-year-old Anoka man was taken into custody Saturday following a 12-hour standoff with Wisconsin police.
The standoff started shortly before 3 a.m. Saturday when officers responded to a domestic situation on the 900 block of 5th Street in Hudson, Wisconsin. The local police department says that a woman living there told officers that her ex-boyfriend, Jonathan Klisch, had entered the home and was breaking things.
She said that there was a handgun inside and she was not sure if Klisch knew where it was.
When officers got to the scene, they found Klisch leaving the home. After they told him to put his hands up and get on the ground, he refused and retreated back inside the home, police say.
Police then set up a perimeter around the home and requested help from emergency response units. Other residents in homes near the area were asked to evacuate their homes for safety.
Police say they tried to negotiate with Klisch, but talking didn't get them far. At about 10 a.m., emergency response units broke down the doors and windows and sent OC gas into the house. Over a PA system, authorities called for Klisch to exit the home.
When that didn't happen, police say they sent in a robot to find Klisch. However, the robot turned up nothing.
Hours after shooting gas into the house, an emergency response unit went into the home and began clearning it.
Around 4:20 p.m., a police dog found Klisch in an upstairs crawlspace.
He was taken into custody and treated for a dog bite to his leg.
Police say he is being held at the St. Croix County Jail on bail jumping charges.
More information on the standoff is expected to be released on Monday.
