Police: Dad Shoots Son, Then Stabs Himself In Maplewood
MAPLEWOOD, Minn. (WCCO) -- Maplewood Police are investigating after a father allegedly shot his son fatally with a long gun and then stabbed himself on Monday.
During a press conference, authorities said the father is currently in critical condition at Regions Hospital.
The incident started just before noon when police were called to a home on the 1800 block of County Road B East in Maplewood.
A family member called 911 to tell police that 84-year-old Pang Vang had shot his son, 36-year-old Chue Vang.
Authorities say they're still collecting details but the initial investigation revealed there was a dispute between the father and son, which escalated and led to the shooting.
After the shooting, Pang Vang barricaded himself in a bedroom and refused to come out.
Police say SWAT members entered the home, and found the son's body inside. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
The father was found with a number of self-inflicted knife wounds, including one to his neck and one to his chest.
Officers have received a warrant for the home and will continue to investigate the incident.
