Police Cleverly Corral Horse Near Metro Highway
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Police in the north metro had to think outside the box Wednesday morning when they found themselves trying to wrangle up a horse that got loose.
It happened near Highway 65 and Bunker Lake Boulevard in Blaine.
"I got a call from the officers," said horse-owner Dave Shoemaker. "They asked me if I had a horse named Daisy, and I said, 'Yes, I do.'"
It turns out Shoemaker's horse had gone missing. The mare somehow broke loose and was found wandering the nearby highway.
"She's old, and she's frightened and she was running," Shoemaker said.
Officers from Ham Lake and Blaine were called in to help. They ended up using crime tape to create a corral, and it worked.
"When they brought that tape in, I thought it was the smartest thing I'd seen," Shoemaker said.
He said he checks the gates each night before his horses go to bed, and everything was locked up Tuesday night.
While he's not sure how Daisy got out, Shoemaker said he's happy she made it back home safe and sound.
