Police Arrest Man In Stolen Car After Chase, Crash
HASTINGS, Minn. (WCCO) -- Police say a man stole a car in Rochester, led police on a chase in Dakota County, and ended up crashing into a residence in the Hastings area.
According to the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, a 19-year-old man was driving a car reported stolen in Rochester at speeds in excess of 100 miles per hour early Thursday morning.
He was seen driving northbound on Highway 52 just south of County Road 46 at about 4:40 a.m. A police chase ensued.
At one point, the driver ran over stop sticks and continued driving until a sheriff's deputy could initiate a PIT maneuver to stop him.
The vehicle ran into a tree and residence at 15th Street and Erickson Drive. The house sustained some damage, authorities said.
The two people inside the vehicle ran off, but were found hiding in a tree not far away.
The driver was taken into custody and booked at the Dakota County Jail. His passenger, who was a juvenile, was released to parents.
