Police: Anarae Schunk Likely Died Day Of Bar Shooting
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Rosemount Police, which is leading the investigation into the death of Anarae Schunk, said she likely died in Rosemount the same day her ex-boyfriend is accused of fatally shooting a man outside a Burnsville bar.
Schunk's body was found in a ditch in Lonsdale back on Monday, a little more than a week after she was reported missing. Schunk was last seen with Shavelle Chavez-Nelson, who is accused of shooting a man to death outside a bar in Burnsville in the early-morning hours of Sept. 22.
Charges could be filed in her death once the investigation is complete, but authorities said that could take several weeks. Chavez-Nelson has already been charged with murder in the death of Palagor Obang Jobi in the shooting that took place outside Nina's Bar. Schunk, a 20-year-old University of Minnesota student, was seen on surveillance video with Chavez-Nelson at Nina's Bar before the altercation that turned deadly between Jobi and her ex-boyfriend.
Jobi was shot eight times and died in the parking lot. Schunk fled the scene with Chavez-Nelson and his current girlfield, Ashley Conrade, in a 1983 Buick Lesabre, according to charges filed in Jobi's death. Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said that after the shooting, Conrade and Chavez-Nelson went to Conrade's Rosemount townhouse, where the two stayed until Chavez-Nelson's arrest. Schunk was never seen or heard from after that.
Schunk's death is being investigated as a homicide, and Rosemount Police are being assisted by the Dakota County Sheriff's Office, Burnsville Police and the Minnesota Bureau of Criminal Apprehension.
