#1 On Alleged Forger's To-Do List: Make Checks
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A woman has been charged with check forgery after police said she was caught red-handed with a to-do-list that had "Make Checks" listed as the first item.
Alexa Marie Leitchman, 27, was charged with one count of possession of a counterfeit check, check forgery and possessing a controlled substance. All three are felonies.
Police said they were called on Dec. 3, 2011 to a hotel in Lakeville, Minn. to help find burglary suspects. Officers were let into a room by one of the occupants and found Leitchman hiding in a bathroom.
She was arrested on an outstanding warrant.
Police searched the room and found a glass pipe sitting on the nightstand and a check for more than $1,000 on the dresser made out to Leitchman from a cell phone company.
Officers said the check was sitting on a large stack of blank papers with three light-colored squares the size of checks on each piece of paper. On a "things to do" list, the first item on the list was to "make checks."
Police said Leitchman admitted that the glass pipe was hers and that the checks were fake and she was making them.
The pipe was later tested and determined to have trace amounts of methamphetamine on it.
Her first court appearance was Jan. 26.
