Plymouth Christmas Display Raises Awareness For Parkinson's
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Imagine stringing up 58,000 Christmas lights on your house. Now imagine doing it with Parkinson's disease.
That's what one local man does every Christmas, and with all the lights comes a powerful message. Mike Justak was diagnosed with Parkinson's disease in 2004, and in 2010 he started doing a full Christmas light display with the help of neighbors. The lights are synchronized to music, and the display brings plenty of holiday cheer to his Plymouth neighborhood.
But there's a much larger message being sent with the display. The 58,000-light display is recognizing the new cases of Parkinson's disease. He said he's raising awareness for the disease in a way nobody else has.
Justak said he does 90 to 95 percent of the work involved with the lights and the show, and it's his way of showing you can overcome the obstacles of Parkinson's disease in life. He has as many as 30 songs that the lights dance to, ranging from Barry Manilow to Lady Gaga.
If you want to see the display, it's at 4320 Ithaca Lane N. in Plymouth. The display will be up daily form 5 p.m. to 10 p.m. through Dec. 29.
