Plane Crash Kills 1 In Otter Tail County
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities say one person is dead after a plane crashed Wednesday night near Parkers Prairie in Otter Tail County.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office responded to a report of a plane crash at about 6:29 p.m. on the 59000 block of County Highway 40. A homeowner in the area called 911 saying he heard a loud noise associated with the crash and then located a badly damaged aircraft on his property.
When authorities arrived, they found a small single-engine propeller plane that had been badly damaged in the crash. Authorities said the pilot, who was the only person in the plane when it crashed, suffered extensive trauma and was pronounced dead at the scene. Parkers Prairie is located just north of Alexandria.
The National Transportation Safety Board and Federal Aviation Administration are investigating what led up to the crash. The Parkers Prairie Police Department and Fire Department, Minnesota State Patrol and the Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office assisted at the scene.
The name of the pilot has not yet been released.
