Pitino, Gophers Arrive At Season Opener Vs. Lehigh
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — Minnesota coach Richard Pitino is on the verge of his first game with the Gophers.
They host Lehigh on Friday night in the season opener.
Pitino said before the team's practice on Thursday afternoon that he's nervous before every game, so this will be no different. Pitino was hired this spring to replace Tubby Smith, who was fired after six seasons. The 31-year-old has one season on his resume as a head coach, in 2012-13 at Florida International.
Pitino said he'll probably use the same starting lineup as the previous exhibition game against Concordia-St. Paul. That means DeAndre Mathieu at point guard, Andre Hollins at shooting guard, Austin Hollins and Oto Osenieks at the forward spots and Elliott Eliason at center.
