Pitino Announces Gophers' 2015 Recruiting Class
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Just days away from the season opener in Puerto Rico, University of Minnesota basketball coach Richard Pitino announced Wednesday that four players signed national letters of intent to join the Gophers in 2015.
Highlighting the class is DeLaSalle point guard Jarvis Johnson, the top senior in Minnesota and the current favorite to win Mr. Basketball. Johnson joins a class that includes Kevin Dorsey, Dupree McBrayer and Jonathan Nwankwo.
"We are excited about the addition of all four student-athletes," Pitino said. "Not only are their futures very bright on the basketball court, but they will also be great representatives of our University and our basketball program."
Johnson helped lead DeLaSalle to its third straight state championship last season, averaging 11.3 poitns and four assists per game. The Islanders are a favorite to win another state title this year.
Dorsey rated a top-100 player by most recruiting services and is a guard at 6 feet tall. From Virginia, he was named a Washington Post All-Met third team selection last year.
McBrayer, a 6-4 guard from the east coast, averaged 13.5 points, 3.5 assists and almost a steal per game during his summer AAU season.
Nwankwo is a 6-10 post player from the Bronx, New York, and is ranked the 29th best center in the country.
"Jonathan Nwankwo has a college-ready body and will bring a lot to our team on day one when he steps on campus," said Pitino. "He is a great student as well as a great person."
The Gophers' 2015 recruiting class currently ranks fourth in the Big Ten.
