Pet Blog: Mpls. Kennel Club Set For 81st Dog Show
Over 1,200 dogs will compete this weekend in Shakopee in the 2014 Minneapolis Kennel Club All-Breed Dog Show.
The competition will be held at Canterbury Park's new Event and Expo Center on Saturday and Sunday.
Organizers say handlers from around the country will be there, including 50 youngsters between the ages of 9 - 17 who will participate in the junior showmanship event.
One of the many highlights of the weekend will be the "Meet the Breeds" segments, where you can get an up-close education about pure-breed dogs from the owners and breeders themselves.
The Minneapolis Kennel Club has been around since the early 1930s, and their first benched dog show was in 1934.
The fun will run from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday and 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Sunday.
Tickets are $8 for adults, $4 for seniors 62 and older and free for kids 12 and younger. Parking is free.
Oh, and let's hope the obedience portion of the competitions go smoother than this situation with the Golden Retriever. (BTW, this is NOT from a previous Minneapolis Kennel Club event, nor is it characteristic of any of the dogs in competition!)
