Three Collisions Claim Five Lives Saturday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - It's been a deadly start to the weekend on both Minnesota and Wisconsin roads.
Just before 3 a.m. Saturday morning, two vehicles collided just west of Eau Claire, Wis.
Eight people were in one of the vehicles and two passed away.
The other vehicle fled the scene.
The driver and owner of the vehicle was found just before 7 a.m. this morning and arrested.
Pedestrian killed by semi in Goodhue County
A 71-year-old man died after being struck by a semi-truck Saturday afternoon in Goodhue County.
Robert W. Fox, of Pine Island, Minn., had parked his Mercedes on the shoulder of Highway 58.
He was in the middle of the highway's northbound lane when the truck hit him.
The incident happened around 1:30 p.m. near Zumbrota.
The driver had not apparent injuries.
The Zumbrota Fire Department, the Goodhue County Sheriff's Office and the state patrol all responded to the scene.
SUV broadsided by semi near Jordan
Two people were killed Saturday afternoon when their SUV was broadsided by a semi truck near Jordan, Minn.
The Ford Escape's driver, David Sorenson, 60, of Shakopee, was trying to turn left from 173rd Street onto northbound Highway 169.
Both the driver and a passenger, Richard Pepinski, 76, of Shakopee, died at the scene, the state patrol says.
The driver of the semi truck, Kenneth L. Wientzlaff, 70, of Arlington, Minn., suffered minor injuries but was not taken to a hospital.
