Patrol: 1 Dead, 7 Injured In Kandiyohi Co. Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A traveler died on Christmas Eve in Kandiyohi County after a driver ran a red light and collided with right-of-way traffic, authorities said.
The collision happened around 11:45 a.m. near Willmar, Minn., at the intersection of Highway 71 and Highway 7, and it involved two cars, two trucks and a total of 10 people, the State Patrol said.
Authorities gave this narrative of the collision: A Ford Escape ran a red light and broadsided a Ford pickup, which then spun out and rolled onto a Lincoln town car and a Volkswagen Beetle.
Authorities have not said who died in the crash, but many injuries have been documented.
The State Patrol said 50-year-old John Gustafson, the driver of the town car, is in critical condition. Gustafson is from Redwood Falls, Minn.
The State Patrol said the Escape's two passengers, the driver and passenger of the pickup, and the passenger in the town car all suffered non-life threatening injuries.
None of the three people traveling in the Volkswagen appears to have been hurt.
The State Patrol will release more information about the crash on Dec. 25.
