Parts Of 2 Minnesota Roads Dedicated To Fallen Officers

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Gov. Mark Dayton signed two bills into law Tuesday that will mark portions of two Minnesota roads as memorials for officers who have lost their lives while in the line of duty.

A segment of Dodd Road in Mendota Heights from Interstate 494 to Smith Avenue West in West St. Paul will be designated as Officer Scott Patrick Memorial Highway. Patrick was shot and killed on July 30, 2014, while on duty during a traffic stop.

Patrick was an officer with the Mendota Heights Police Department for 19 years and is survived by a wife and two teenage daughters.

Also designated on Tuesday was a segment of Highway 36 in Maplewood that will be named Sergeant Joseph Bergeron Memorial Highway. Bergeron was an officer with the Maplewood Police Department for 26 years. He was shot and killed on May 1, 2010, while responding to a carjacking.

He is survived by his wife and twin daughters.
