Partial Solar Eclipse Visible In Minnesota Thursday
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO/AP) -- A number of astronomy buffs are preparing for Thursday's partial solar eclipse, which will be the final one of the year.
The moon will move in front of the sun from about 4:30 p.m. until after sunset Thursday. The peak time in Minnesota for the eclipse should be just after 5:30 p.m.
Regular sunglasses won't fully protect eyes from damage, so anyone viewing the eclipse is urged to wear special filtered glasses. Do not look directly at the eclipse.
The eclipse should be visible through much of North America.
WCCO meteorologist Kylie Bearse says that clouds should not be a factor late Thursday afternoon.
Scientists say a total solar eclipse will cut through much of the middle part of the U.S. on August 21, 2017, but will only be a partial eclipse in Minnesota. A total eclipse in the Twin Cities is predicted for September 14, 2099.
