Parry Lags Quist In Cash In 1st Dist. GOP Primary
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- Republican Mike Parry is running a shoestring primary campaign in southern Minnesota as he lags fellow Republican Allen Quist in fundraising.
Parry had about $28,000 in the bank about three weeks before the primary, compared with about $118,000 for Quist.
Parry, a state senator from Waseca, raised $9,000 during the first 25 days of July, according to his latest federal campaign report.
During that same period, Quist raised almost $19,000, including $10,000 of his own money. The former state representative from rural St. Peter has put more than $200,000 from his own pocket into his campaign.
The winner of the Aug. 14 primary will face Democratic Rep. Tim Walz in the 1st District. Walz has $808,000 to spend as he seeks a fourth term.
