Parole Possible For Child Abductor In 34 Years
OLIVIA, Minn. (AP) -- The Marshall man convicted of abducting and sexually assaulting a 14-year-old paper girl could be eligible for parole in nearly 34 years.
A Renville County district judge sentenced 26-year-old Matthew Fahey to the mandatory life in prison Tuesday and set parole eligibility at 33 years, 8 months.
The defense asked that Fahey's sentencing be delayed citing Fahey's mental health issues, but the judge disagreed and said there was no evidence to support the argument.
KEYC-TV says Fahey was also ordered to pay $3,000 in restitution. The victim wrote in a statement to the court that her life has been affected in many ways since she was attacked. She says she never wants to be alone and gets nervous when she sees someone that she perceives is a perpetrator. The teen was delivering newspapers in Fairfax when she was abducted and assaulted.
