Fire At Paper Recycling Plant

MAPLE GROVE, Minn. (WCCO) -- A small fire paper recycling facility in Maple Grove caused some smoke damage early Wednesday morning.

According to authorities, the incident happened at the RockTenn plant on the 8700 block of Valley Forge Lane at about 1:30 a.m. Wednesday.

Employees had activated the water deluge suppression system after a paper baler caught fire. Authorities said the system actually extinguished the flames and prevented them from spreading.

No one was injured, but there was some minor smoke damage and the bailer sustained some damage as well.

The chief on the scene said this has happened a number of times since the plant opened a few years ago.
