Pa. Woman Sues Over Target Debt Collection
PITTSBURGH (AP) -- A western Pennsylvania woman has filed a federal lawsuit against officials at the Target Corp. over the discount department store chain's debt collection practices.
Vicki Higgins' lawsuit alleges that the company and its law firm used false affidavits to sue thousands of customers for debts allegedly owed to a subsidiary bank that issues the store's credit cards. The lawsuit says the affidavits were notarized, but weren't reviewed by a company official.
Officials with Minneapolis-based Target; Target National Bank of Sioux Falls, S.D.; and the chain's law firm did not immediately return calls from The Associated Press on the federal lawsuit filed Wednesday in Pittsburgh.
The lawsuit seeks class-action status.
