Pa. County Dropping 'Greene' To Bolster Steelers
WAYNESBURG, Pa. (AP) -- A southwestern Pennsylvania county plans to drop the "green" from its name in order to support the Pittsburgh Steelers in Super Bowl XLV.
The Greene County commissioners say they'll introduce a resolution at Wednesday's meeting to change the county's name temporarily to "Black and Gold County."
Commission chair Pam Snyder says the move is to make sure that the Green Bay Packers don't even get any incidental support from this county southwest of Pittsburgh, which forms the state's southwestern corner.
Still, Snyder tells the Washington Observer-Reporter newspaper, "It doesn't matter what we call ourselves. The Steelers are going to win the Super Bowl."
