Owatonna Man Wins 2012 DNR Pheasant Stamp Contest
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources (DNR) chose a painting of pheasants by an Owatonna man as the winning design for the 2012 pheasant habitat stamp contest.
James Killen painted the winning image of two dead pheasant dangling near the head of a black lab. Killen previously won the pheasant stamp contest in 1985 and 1997.
Judges chose Killen's painting from a pool of 17 entries.
Most pheasant hunters in Minnesota are required to have the pheasant stamp, which costs $7.50. Revenue generated by the stamp goes to habitat improvement efforts in private and public pheasant range lands.
The stamp goes on sale in March of 2012.
