Outrage Continues Following The Killing Of Cecil The Lion
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Vandals attacked one of the homes of the Minnesota dentist who shot and killed Cecil the Lion. They spray painted "Lion Killer!" on the garage door at Dr. Walter Palmer's Marco Island vacation home in Florida.
Mark Simms, a British tabloid photographer who's been staking out the Florida house, said the outrage has crossed the line.
"It's not nice," he said. "Everyone, stay off his property. [Vandalism] shouldn't be done."
The vandals also left bloody pigs feet and animal crackers in Palmer's driveway.
Meanwhile, Palmer remains in hiding as reporters from around the world stake out his homes, including the one in Eden Prairie.
No one answered Wednesday at that suburban Minneapolis home. Reporters and photographers – from the New York Post and London's Daily Mail -- remain camped out just down the street.
Palmer's Bloomington dental office remains closed as well. Even so, two businessman from Vermont and Dallas stopped by to take a picture, giving Palmer a thumbs down.
George Landis, the businessman from Vermont, said Palmer's hunt was a matter of "poor judgement."
The Animal Legal Defense Fund and People for the Ethical Treatment of Animals (PETA) have each filed complaints with the Minnesota Board of Dentistry demanding Palmer's dental license be revoked.
The groups cite a Minnesota law that says the dental board can revoke or suspend a license for conduct unbecoming or "gross immorality." The dental board declined to comment.
In Zimbabwe, the guide who led the hunt for Cecil appeared in court and afterword said he had all the right permits for the hunt, adding that the charges against him are "frivolous" and "wrong."
In statements last week, Palmer said he did nothing wrong and that he was just following the guide's advice.
While the guide and a landowner have been charged in Zimbabwe, Palmer has not. Even so, Zimbabwe officials have said they are seeking to have Palmer extradited to face formal charges there.
The extradition process could take months.
