OSHA Inspects Willmar Turkey Plant
WILLMAR, Minn. (AP) — An Occupational Safety and Health Administration inspector is trying to determine whether any federal safety violations occurred at the Jennie-O turkey processing plant in Willmar where more than a dozen employees were sickened.
Minnesota OSHA spokesman James Honerman says an inspector was sent to the Willmar facility Monday. Honerman says there's no timeframe on how long the inspection will take. He says the facility was last inspected in February 2013 and no violations were found.
The plant had to be evacuated last Friday when 28 employees got sick with flu-like symptoms. The majority were treated at a local hospital. The facility resumed production.
Willmar Fire Chief Gary Hendrickson said there were no readings of any type of noxious gases or fumes.
Jennie-O is owned by Hormel Foods of Austin.
