Ore. AG Says MN Debt Collector To Pay $90,000
PORTLAND, Ore. (AP) -- Oregon Attorney General John Kroger says a Minnesota debt collector has agreed to pay the state $90,000 and end abusive practices that prompted hundreds of consumer complaints.
Among other things, the complaints allege that Allied Interstate repeatedly called Oregon consumers even after being told they were not the debtor.
Allied Interstate was also accused of revealing alleged debts to third parties without permission, threatening legal action the company was not authorized to take, using obscene or profane language and harassing third parties.
Kroger said in a statement the Oregon Department of Justice "will not tolerate any attempt to threaten, harass or mislead Oregon consumers."
The agreement was filed Thursday in Marion County Circuit Court in Salem.
