Onamia Pair Arrested After Grand Casino Drive-By
ONAMIA, Minn. (WCCO) – Two people are in the Mille Lacs County Jail after a man was shot in the back in the parking lot of Grand Casino Mille Lacs in Onamia on Thursday.
Nineteen-year-old Dale Clinton White, Jr. of Isle was grazed in the back by a bullet while standing in the parking lot east of the Grand Casino Mille Lacs Hotel at approximately 4 p.m.
According to Mille Lacs County Sheriff Brent C. Lindgren, Mille Lacs Tribal Police secured the area and recovered shell casings in the parking lot. With the help of Casino surveillance cameras, the suspect vehicle was identified as a pickup truck. The description was sent out to all area law enforcement, and the vehicle was spotted by the Crow Wing County Sheriff's office at a Super America gas station in Garrison. The truck, with a male and female passenger, fled from authorities onto Lake Mille Lacs.
Law enforcement covered all exits of the lake, and local resort owners helped by monitoring roads. Mille Lacs Tribal DNR agents eventually located the abandoned truck via snowmobile southwest of Rainbow Island in Vineland Bay near the shore line. A K-9 officer tracked footprints to Migizi Drive, were evidence existed of another vehicle used to pick up the suspects.
North Central Drug Task Force Agents eventually stopped a Bronco truck that was leaving a residence and noticed that the tire impressions match those left at Migizi Drive. The Crow Wing Deputy confirmed that one of the passengers, 21-year-old Marissa Clare Sam of Onamia, was the female occupant in the pickup truck based on shoe prints also left at Migizi Drive.
Further investigation led officers to an Onamia home where 23-year-old Quentin Reginald Garbow was arrested without incident. A search of the residence led to the discovery of a loaded pistol with ballistic tip rounds. Officers later executed a search warrant at Garbow's home and found several rounds of ammo for various weapons.
Garbow and Sam are held in jail with charges pending as the investigation continues.
White was transported to the Mille Lacs Health Systems Hospital, and was treated and released with non-life threatening injuries.
