Officials: Woman Dies In Roll-Over Crash, Alcohol Suspected
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Authorities in northern Minnesota say they arrested a man early Friday morning for allegedly driving drunk after he crashed a car into a lake, injuring himself and killing a woman.
The Otter Tail County Sheriff's Office says deputies responded to the crash at around 1:30 a.m. after campers near Franklin Lake called them, saying they heard someone calling out for help on the lake's east side.
When emergency crews got to the scene – just off County Highway 31 -- they found a rolled-over car and a deceased woman. Officials say she was 29-years-old and from Texas.
The car had been traveling south on the highway, officials say, when it failed to negotiate a curve. The car then went into a ditch, rolled over and came to rest in Franklin Lake.
The driver, a 42-year-old man from Texas, suffered non-life-threatening injuries, and emergency crews brought him to an area hospital for treatment. He was later arrested for criminal vehicular homicide and on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol.
The names of those involved have yet to be released.
