Officials Want Football Fans To Plan A Sober Ride
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) -- The Minnesota Department of Public Safety is reminding motorists to designate a sober driver before watching the Super Bowl.
The DPS Office of Traffic Safety has kept data on alcohol-related incidents during Super Bowl Sunday. From 2006 through 2010, there were nine traffic deaths on the day of the big game. Four were alcohol related. In addition, 1,201 motorists were arrested for drunken driving.
State Patrol Lt. Eric Roeske says motorists should plan for a sober ride, and always buckle up.
DPS says football fans could pick a sober driver before the game, use public transportation or a taxi, or stay at the celebration. Anyone who sees impaired driving is asked to call 911, and should be prepared to give operators a location and license plate number.
