Officials Say Metro Transit Ridership Up Slightly In 2013
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – Metro Transit officials said Wednesday that in the first half of the year there have been nearly 40 million riders on buses and trains, up less than one percent from this time last year.
Officials said there have been 312,000 more rides than last year so far. The biggest gain has come in riding the Northstar Commuter Light Rail, which is up 15 percent from last year with more than 50,000 riders so far.
Transit officials said that increase has been fueled by a fare change made permanent on May 1 and the opening of a station in Ramsey last November.
Transit officials also said taking the bus for urban local service is up about one percent with an increase of 279,000 rides, express service is up 2.6 percent with 113,000 more rids and suburban local service is up more than three percent with an increase of 25,000 rides.
