Officials: Bus Hits Pedestrian In Downtown Mpls.
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Metro Transit bus hit a pedestrian in downtown Minneapolis Tuesday night, officials said, and the pedestrian, the bus driver and several bus passengers were brought to a hospital.
Metro Transit officials said the incident happened just after 8:30 p.m. at the intersection of 2nd and Washington avenues. The exact sequence of events isn't clear, but a southbound bus did hit a pedestrian, who was knocked to the ground.
An ambulance brought the pedestrian, who was conscious and breathing after the incident, to the Hennepin County Medical Center. The pedestrian's condition is not known.
Due to abrupt use of the brakes, several of the bus passengers complained of neck and back pain, officials said. Crews brought them to HCMC to get medical attention.
Metro Transit staff also brought the bus driver to HCMC for medical evaluation, officials said. The driver will also undergo a drug and alcohol test, which is standard procedure following such an event.
Metro Transit police are investigating the incident. A crash reconstruction was underway Tuesday night.
