Official: Student Accidentally Discharges Gun Outside Elementary School
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- No one was hurt after a Bethune Community student accidentally discharged a gun outside the school just before class got out Tuesday afternoon, a district spokeswoman said.
According to Rachel Hicks of Minneapolis Public Schools, Bethune is home to first through fifth graders. She added that "very few students were present" when the gun went off accidentally from inside the student's backpack at about 3 p.m.
A School Messenger phone message was sent to Bethune families informing them of the incident, Hicks said.
Citing student data privacy - and because Minneapolis police are investigating the incident - Hicks did not share any other information.
Weapons are strictly prohibited on school property.
